TX-KEA Required Measures for ECDS
For the 2020-21 school year, CLI Engage will be sending Texas Kindergarten Entry Assessment data directly to TEA on behalf of school districts and charter schools. Early Childhood Data System (ECDS) submissions will include the statewide literacy screener. Download and review the information in the document below that includes the Texas Kindergarten Entry Assessment measures that will be required for ECDS.
For the current school year, kindergarten data must be uploaded to ECDS by Thursday, January 28, 2021.
ECDS Reporting Requirements
Please review the following information when selecting the TX-KEA measures that will be assessed in kindergarten classrooms:
- Texas Education Code (TEC) §28.006 requires LEAs to administer an assessment instrument that measures emergent literacy-reading skills. School districts and charter schools using TX-KEA to fulfill this requirement must administer all three measures that comprise the composite score for the statewide literacy screener (highlighted in the table on the following page).
- The statewide literacy screener comprises three measures (Vocabulary, Letter Names, and Spelling) that align to other ECDS domains.
- Reporting requirements will only include BOY measures (known as Wave 1 in CLI Engage).
- LEAs are recommended to assess in all five ECDS domains and report this information to ECDS. For TX-KEA, specific measures aligned to ECDS reports for all five domains are in the table on the following page. If your school district or charter school administers these measures using TX-KEA, the scores would be included in your LEA’s ECDS submission.
